Backtesting in Trade Desk

Replay historical bars, place simulated orders, and review a backtest session.

Quick path

Backtest is a desktop feature inside Trade Desk.

  1. Open Trade Desk, select Backtest, then New backtest.

  2. Choose a Playbook, set Costs and Margin, then select Start backtest.

  3. Use the Ticket to place simulated orders and the replay controls to move historical bars forward.

  4. Select End session, open Summary, then choose Review with Helix for a dedicated review of that session.

Access

Pro and Quant traders can create sessions and simulated orders. Starter shows an upgrade option, demo cannot enter Backtest, and mobile has no Backtest entry point. After a tier downgrade, an existing session stays readable and can still be closed, but creating sessions or simulated orders requires Pro or Quant.

Backtest versus Market Rewind

Market Rewind is for inspecting one historical candle with its market context, trades, and journal. Backtest is for moving through hidden historical bars and placing simulated orders inside a session.

Your results stay simulated

Backtest trades never enter your real Trades log or real performance reports. Simulated results test a process against historical bars and do not predict live results.

Review a session

Review with Helix opens the dedicated review for that Backtest session. General Helix chat does not inspect a Backtest session unless you open this session review.
